practice, a skill set that is essential forstudents pursuing faculty careers, may also be a useful metric for graduate training more broadly.In the initial design of the course, we chose to move away from traditional assignments andassessments (such as quizzes and tests) to maximize the accessibility of the course. [5]. Faculty at the University of Michigan have gone a step further todesign and implement seven “biomedical engineering in practice” modules in theirundergraduate curriculum [6]. These modules are designed to be student-centered, with most ofthe experiential learning activities occurring in the classroom. The modules led to significantlearning gains, particularly in female students.
