. Theparticipants follow the steps outlined in Figure 3. We are intentional about collecting assets thatparticipants are willing to share so that no projects are selected that the board does not have thephysical, skills, social, or capital assets to complete. This empowers participants to select aPartnership Project that they will develop collaboratively over the next year. Because this is ayear-long commitment, participants must be ready and willing to commit to this ahead of theworkshop. Once a project is selected, the participants create an action plan and decide when tomeet again. The process and actions taken after the workshop are intended to encourage activeparticipation and the building of trust among the group.A successful workshop begins with a

. (b) North and South Carolina net energy generation by sourceIn a recently released report, Duke Energy has indicated that numerous significant changes to theenergy landscape will have an impact on its future expansion plan over the next ten years [3-4],including:• Anticipated large increase in demand and reserve capacity, as NC is undergoing rapid expansion, they are attracting not only residential consumers but also major industrial and commercial enterprises, which necessitates a more environmentally friendly generation mix for them to relocate or remain in NC. • Cleaner energy sources than coal power plants have to be used due to the policy of regulatory environment.• The incentives offered by the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) of

achieve by the end of the course or program. This process ensures clarity in what students are expected to know, understand, and be able to do, fostering a goal-oriented approach to curriculum design. • Determining acceptable evidence: This stage involves designing an assessment plan that includes both formative and summative assessments. These assessments are explicitly linked to the learning outcomes, providing evidence of student progress and mastery. By emphasizing measurable outcomes, this phase ensures that instructional goals are met effectively. • Planning learning experiences and instruction: Finally, educators design activities and instructional strategies that support students in

surveys are distributed: Academic Feedback Survey: This survey collects feedback from the academics and aims to understand: - Were they satisfied with the support provided by the company? - Did they receive sufficient resources from the company to create the planned courses? - Were they satisfied with the selection and communication process? Student Feedback Survey: This survey is shared with students who participated in the new courses. The questions and results from this survey are discussed in the next section.Since the program started, the company has successfully collaborated with 47 universities in19 countries (Figure 1). professional abilities. In addition to undergraduate research, engineering students seek out opportunities forprofessional growth like senior design, and recent literature indicates that these design teamsgenerally prepare them to begin their first year of work [18]. Students found that activities likeparticipating in team meetings, project planning, and generation or refining of concepts ondesign teams were the activities that carried over into the workplace. An analysis of engineeringjob descriptions revealed that companies most frequently seek out students who are capable ofproblem solving, another skill reinforced by senior design [19]. The same study found thatproficiency with computer aided design software and Microsoft Office were the

employees to serve in some capacity as the project liaison and to ensure projectdeliverables meet expectations. The course faculty might enlist the liaison to also help withstudent development and the evaluation of students’ work.Working in teams is also an expected student outcome for all engineering programs and it relatesto skills sought out by engineering employers [2]-[3]. Successful engineering students mustfunction effectively on a team whose members together provide leadership, create a collaborativeand inclusive environment, establish goals, plan tasks, and meet objectives [4]. Therefore, student success in these courses is determined through the quality of their project deliverables, the quality of their individual contributions, their

. Following the success of the SoSTeMintervention, the engineering faculty has adopted pre-training sessions as a standard practice forall engineering students before internships. This institutional shift ensures that students gainexperiential learning more effectively during their placements. The study's contribution lies inproviding a replicable framework for aligning academic training with industry expectations, setting a precedent for future improvements in engineering education and workforce readiness inresource-constrained settings.Future workFuture work will focus on refining internship frameworks by integrating structured mentorship, reflective practices, and problem-based learning. Additionally, plans include developingscalable, sustainable

technical skills anddecision-making: Talking to these people, getting input from them—if I write a test plan or report, what’s their feedback? What’s their criticism? Where did I make mistakes? Even at 14 years in, I’d say my knowledge is still relatively limited compared to someone who’s been doing this for 40 years. Mentoring under people with more experience is invaluable. This mentorship experience highlights how direct mentoring bridges generational knowledgegaps, fosters professional confidence, and preserves institutional expertise, ultimately enablingengineers to address complex technical challenges more effectively.Jordan’s experience with peer mentoring further illustrated how structured mentoring programsfoster

are crucial. The structuralcomplexity and inflexibility often inherent in universities can act as barriers to the success ofUIC initiatives [27]. Second, relationship factor. Effective collaboration is facilitated byreciprocal communication [28], mutual commitment [29], trust [30], and the ability toovercome cultural barriers [4]. Third, output factors. One output factor that has garneredsignificant scholarly attention is goals. Both sides must reach a shared understanding of theobjectives of UIC and develop achievable goals accompanied by precise action plans toensure successful implementation [31]. Additionally, effective knowledge and technologytransfer is widely recognized as a critical component [32]. Finally, framework factor, including

, before a paper is formally published. The updated curriculum assists students in learning the trends and the latest achievements in thefield and making decisions about their career paths. Patrick from department I shared that hisdepartment always invites engineers from various companies to give talks related to the coursecontent.Research and Financial Support It is worth noting that not all students decide to enter full-time positions directly after graduation,so support related to research and providing proper funding is necessary, especially for thosewho plan to attend graduate schools as their career path. During the interview, five participantsemphasized that their departments offered financial and research support to diversify
