semester of 2017, a local inventor (2nd author of this paper) needed some CADmodeling support. We adapted our curriculum and made it a priority to help meet this need. Wewere rewarded for it - students loved these service projects. The S-L project served as a link fromengineering theory to everyday objects people can touch and see. Along the process they learnedwhat they needed to learn - the CAD tools. It was a win-win situation. instructors.The Kano kits were appropriately balanced; it allowed students the challenge of constructing theirkits, while also allotting enough time left over to spend learning how to code. Once assembled,students were able to work together in their pre-assigned pairs to follow along step by step withthe content created by a CodeIT day team member.The curriculum introduced the students to the different programming categories and parts thatcould be added (i.e. text and speaker) on Kano’s integrated development environment, KanoWorld. The categories included events, control, logic, math, variables, color, lists and draw. greater benefit than those who viewed the entirecourse negatively.The middle-school students benefit from meeting near-peers who are willing to give ofthemselves and their time, receiving an aspirational view of the future, and being exposed toSTEM and STEM fields. The data collected from the college students show that the collegementors believe themselves to be providing a benefit to the younger students. Data collectedfrom the younger students is not yet available for the years including engineering students in theprogram.Our next steps are to further integrate the service learning program into the Introduction toEngineering curriculum, with more substantial reflection and synthesis, and in having theengineering majors mentoring each other
