Computational modeling and interdisciplinary projects for engineering technology students The advances in nanotechnology, tissue engineering, and robotics has precipitated the need forengineering technology students who can understand and contribute to simulation and development ofcomputer models for complex command, communications, biological and control systems. The engineering faculty at our university is developing multidisciplinary projects/classes, which includehands-on application-oriented laboratory exercises, which can actively engage students. These laboratoryprojects will also be helpful to students who will take capstone senior project coursework. This paper will discuss the new, interesting multidisciplinary projects

Programming) course project (freshman level) and through multidisciplinary IEEE student chapter projects & a required for-credit capstone project. 5. Provide faculty mentors for each program participant; increase the efficacy of faculty mentoring provided to each student participant in the scholarship program by faculty- mentor training and accountability. 6. Establish mechanisms for acquiring ongoing sources of funds to sustain at least five annual full-tuition scholarships after the grant is over.”6The LEAP program addresses the three following areas6: 1) The financial and educational needs of students in computer science and engineering disciplines at an open enrollment university. 2) Increases leadership

the collection of 2D images that are then translated to 3D byexternal reconstruction software. As with many computer engineering programs, students of the computer engineering program atUtah Valley University (UVU) conclude their degree programs with a semester capstone designexperience. The intent is for students to utilize competencies developed in the first three years ofthe curriculum in the solution of an embedded design problem. This paper summarizes theresult of an undergraduate capstone experience where the feasibility of utilizing ubiquitoustechnology (2D ultrasound) to mimic the functionality of enhanced but expensive 3D ultrasoundmachines is assessed.Capstone Projects at UVUThe goal of projects in our Capstone Design course is to

, conceptual ideas, design sketches, calculations, technical references, professional contacts, component sources, software information, etc. The logbook should be dated and signed. Technical reports: In their senior design/capstone projects students work on two semesterprojects. In these projects, they are usually required to design and/or build a new product, deviceor an engineering solution. As an output of their engineering process, they are required to submitthe final report at least a week before the end of the semester. The average length of a seniordesign report is 20 to 30 pages. PowerPoint presentation: Engineering students are required to deliver a group oralpresentation to department faculty and fellow students during the last

. Interdisciplinary Capstone Projects As indicated in previous sections, all faculty members think that being able to work in ateam is crucial for success in the workplace. In addition to teamwork, three faculty membershighlighted the importance of providing experience with working in interdisciplinary teams andprojects in undergraduate courses, since the problems they face in the real world are no longerlimited to individual disciplines, and it is less and less frequent that all members of a team comefrom the same background or play the same role. As one faculty member said: 14Formal Education and Computing Professionals’ Needs We should be doing
