The in-classactivities are a mini-lecture by the instructor, solo voting on a multiple choice question, groupdiscussion, group voting, and then an instructor-led class discussion. Zingaro et al. (2013)investigate the role of pre-class preparatory work, specifically the reading quiz assigned tostudents to complete prior to class. The reading quiz has 2-3 questions based on content andone open-response question asking about areas of confusion, difficulty, or interest.
