currently available for direct measurement of the power input tothe blower; however, such an addition is planned for future upgrades of the wind tunnel setup. This addition would then allow measurement of overall energy conversion efficiency. However, the power levels shown in Figure 7 are very reasonable considering the fact that the wind tunnelis designed for a maximum test section airspeed of about 150 mph using a 10 hp blower.Extrapolation of the above plot clearly indicates that these maximum power requirements are inthe proper range.Summary and ConclusionsThis paper presents the authors recent experience with a simple modification to an existingAerolab educational wind tunnel test facility. this way allowsthe students to learn software tools that can be used in other courses and industry.BackgroundThe UHD Engineering Technology department has recently obtained more LabVIEW and VisualBasic software to further the development of all engineering and technology classes. Theelectrical power systems course exercises and projects have benefited from the acquisition of thissoftware. Furthermore, it is planned to also use other software packages in the electrical powersystem course in particular Intergraph Smart Plant Electrical software. The use of the SmartPlant Electrical software is planned for the upcoming fall semester. Note that the Smart PlantElectrical software is used by industry to design various aspects of electrical power

These additional CATME tools to support teamwork were developed this year.Impact on engineering educationIn engineering education, we have had a significant impact on classroom practice in how facultymanage teams. As our report shows, in addition to the large user base from engineering, there areengineering education researchers who not only cite our work, but also do research usingCATME as a tool. Thus, we are benefiting students, faculty, and researchers as we planned. Theselection of CATME

The data analysis wasgrounded in in both social cognitive and situated learning frameworks and produced interestingdiscovery on how individual learners’ characteristic, the social aspects of collaborative learning, and the pedagogical components in PBL interacted to affect student learning. Particularly, socialinteraction was valued by students from all ethnical groups as the greatest motivating factor inCPBL. In this paper, the research method as well as the preliminary findings are described. “Final Experiment” is to give the students a chance to plan, design, conduct and analyze an experiment of their own using appropriate DOE techniques. The contextof the experiment is limited only by the student’s imagination. They may conduct experimentsdirectly connected to their research, a project that they are involved in at work, or they couldconduct a “household” experiment. Students use the knowledge that they have gained byrunning the previous in-class experiments to plan their own experiment. The “Final Experiment”gives them a real taste of everything that goes into planning and conducting an experiment on Page 25.905.6their

plan for a hypothetical “client”, abiomedical professor, who needed to measure human arm movement to test his researchhypothesis regarding stroke-induced impairment. The client, role-played by the instructor, had afew “meetings” with the students to exchange ideas and elaborate on project requirements. In this pilot implementation, we were interested in the students’ response to the open-endeddesign format. The main assessment tool was the reports written by individual students. Basedon the grading of the report, we aimed to identify common deficiencies and proficiencies so thatwe can improve instructions, guidelines, and/or structure to help improve students’ performanceand learning. The course structure for Spring 2016 semester and Spring 2015

Under the Quality Enhancement Plan, Old Dominion University(ODU) has been regularly offering Improving Disciplinary Writing (IDW) workshops for itsfaculty since 2014. The IDW workshop divides the technical writing process into six steps: pre-writing planning, research, drafting, reviewing, revising, and editing. It also emphasizes fourimportant features of effective writing: role, audience, format, and task (RAFT). This six-steptechnical writing process, along with RAFT, serves as the base for laboratory manual revision. Laboratory manual writing is very different from textbook writing, just as laboratoryinstruction is very different from regular lecture classes. The former has to deal with

engineeringprogram. The form is used to develop an action plan to improve this lab experience as a case-study of a program preparing for an ABET accreditation visit under EC2000.IntroductionSince Engineering is a practical discipline and a hands-on profession where doing is a keyelement, undergraduate engineering laboratories are essential to prepare the future engineers tofit into the profession. In their comprehensive paper on the role of the laboratory in engineeringeducation, Fiesel and Rosa1 explored the milestones of that role as follows: ‚ Prior to the creation of engineering schools, engineering was taught using apprenticeship approach. Early engineers had to design, analyze, and build their own creations through learning by
