The noise in the differentiator circuitshown in Fig. 9 can be improved by placing an extra resistor of small resistance in series with thecapacitor.In the second part of the laboratory, the simple integrator circuit as shown in Fig. 12 was simulatedand the result is shown in Fig. 13. The integrator circuit was built on the breadboard and the inputand output signals were captured by the oscilloscope. The waveforms are shown in Fig. 14. opportunity by adapting Louisiana Tech’sclasslab concept (integrating class and lab facilities at scale) and large portions of theirinnovative, NSF-funded LivingWithTheLab (LWTL) curriculum. The LWTL curriculumemploys hands-on, project-based instruction for first-year engineering design and demandsavailability of classrooms featuring equipment often restricted from wide student use byavailability and safety concerns. An aircannon design project was integrated towards the beginning of a year-long thermal-fluid sciencescourse series. The primary aim of the project was for student teams to study how air cannonsfunction and subsequently design a prototype that fits “customer” specifications. mechanical engineering students completelab experiments at brick-and-mortar facilities is outmoded.We propose an alternative approach with potential to revolutionize distance undergraduatemechanical engineering education: Hands-On Learning Module (@HOLM™) laboratory kits.These kits maintain the centrality of laboratories in the mechanical engineering curriculum whileallowing undergraduate engineering courses to be taught fully remotely and on-line. In this newparadigm, remote learners receive in the mail an inexpensive @HOLM™ kit containingexperiments integrated into the online course they are taking. Following assembly instructions,learners build each apparatus, run experiments, collect and analyze data, and author lab reports. Bydescribing here
