The converter in Fig. 2b uses aVz = 4.7 V zener diode that is used as a voltage reference generator. The design specifications aregiven in terms of output voltage, ripple constraints, load current requirements. The referencegenerator circuit is the same to the circuit shown in Fig. 2a and also follows very similar designmethodology. Since the reference generator circuit appears in a different context and studentfocus is on meeting design specifications, the connection to circuit shown in Fig. 2a is oftenmissed. The selected course has heavy loads ofmathematics and physics knowledge while having one prerequisite of Introduction to Electricaland Computer Engineering and two co-requisites including Applied Engineering Analysis andPhysics for Scientists and Engineers. The Applied Engineering Analysis course prepares studentswith knowledge of the analysis of engineering problems using linear algebra and ordinarydifferential equations (ODEβs). The physics course covers knowledge of electricity andmagnetism, fundamentals of circuits, electromagnetic induction, and alternative current (AC)circuits. All these topics in the co-requisites are foundations for the Network Theory course.Students registered in the Fall of 2022

has authored or co-authored over 50 journal and approximately 125 conference papers and holds 11 patents in the area of wireless communications. In 2010 he was co-recipient of the Fred W. Eller- sick MILCOM Award for the best paper in the unclassified technical program. He is currently a Senior Member of IEEE, and an Associate Editor for IEEE Transactions on Communications and IEEE Wireless Communications Letters. He was formerly an associate editor for IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Tech- nologies, IEEE Transactions on Wireless Communications, IEEE Transactions on Signal Processing, and IEEE Transactions on Education. In 2003 he was named Outstanding New Assistant Professor by the Vir- ginia Tech College of
