Therefore we were not able to prove our test hypothesis that the upper-classengineering students would score higher on the NSPE ethics practice exam than the freshmanstudents.In an attempt to gain greater insight into the results we compared specific questions with a highcorrect score percentage (≥ 80%) and those with a low correct score percentage (≤ 20%) for eachof the survey groups. lack of a consistent and coherent ethical reasoning approach that is suitablefor responding to ethical issues that pervade engineering practice. We argue that reflexiveprinciplism (RP) as an applicable ethical reasoning approach, a view we have elucidated inearlier work8. Furthermore, we posit that in order for this principlist approach to becomereflexive for engineers, engineering educators need an integrated and facile pedagogicalframework that can be engaged repeatedly at various locations in an engineering curriculum.
