For one of his lesson plans,Teacher A developed career biographies of CNT faculty, students, and staff across differentdisciplines represented in neurotechnology. A few studentsrated the course adequate; four students rated the course at a 4 or 5. Students’ expectations werelow; the “personal interest before enrolled” average rating was 2.1 / 6 (median 2.0); the lowestseen in the department. curricular content makes a difference in shaping the beliefs and expectationsstudents hold as they transition into their professional careers. Such an assumption is warrantedgiven the way other topics appear in the curriculum. For example, if an emphasis on teamworkand problem-solving were not perceived as relevant to professional practice, then one would notexpect them to receive as much attention as they do4,5. Similarly, engineering ethics is anothersuch pivotal topic, and therefore one would expect it to appear in undergraduate courses. Yet,this is not uniformly the case. Subjectivity is a recasting of theadmonishment against treating others as objects rather than as subjects each possessing their ownunique set of self interests. Communion refers to the intricate web that we belong to as citizensof the Universe.
