Since freshman engineering students need to learn the same things, engaging the newlibrarians in teaching basic information literacy components to freshman engineering studentsseemed to be a good place to train them.The learning process included three significant steps: Observation, reflection (and input), andpractice. assessmentstrategies to identify services and infrastructure to meet the needs of graduate students andfaculty researchers. In general, results revealed the need for developing information literacyskills, technological infrastructure and physical facilities for collaboration. More specifically,assessment findings showed that researchers: (1) identified a need for assistance with technicalwriting, communication skills, search strategies, and ethical use of information; (2) expected newservices encompassing data management, authorship, copyright, and organizing, sharing, andpreserving information in the digital environment; and (3) needed a collaborative space whereteaching and research services coincided. oflibrarians started offering classes in both English and French in 2010, and integrated more activepedagogies. Throughout these transformations, the University’s senior leadership alwaysapproved the proposed changes and maintained the mandatory information literacy training.Students participating in the training sessions filled teaching evaluation surveys, for which theresults are presented in this paper. The surveys asked the students about their degree ofsatisfaction regarding the different objectives of the training sessions, namely defining aninformation need, building and optimizing a search strategy, finding information sources relevantto their field, and learning how to ethically use information. The Librarysubscribed to the classroom edition as well and received feedback from one physicsinstructor. Harmayer’s study focused on the librarians’ preference of collections related to pro-choice over those representing pro-life. Quinn (2012) has addressed both the psychological andphilosophical reasons for bias. The latter is related to librarian’s commitment to an ethical codewhereas the former can be both conscious and unconscious.
