. The challenge was to implement a qualityeducational program subject to the constraints of being a rural university and lack of namerecognition.The key to the success of the accreditation effort was to create a process that demonstratedcompliance with ABET criteria while also targeting the constraints of the problem. A team offaculty, called the Engineering Physics Oversight Committee (EPOC) was established to developand implement the process. A management plan was also developed describing the division ofresponsibility amongst the team as well as the implementation of an external advisory board.TrainingIt was very important to attend sessions and review literature related to ABET accreditation. course offerings, physics-major requirements, and electives offered from twomajor categories of institution: national universities without graduate programs in physics andnational liberal arts colleges.The reorientation in the program included modifying and extending course offerings, and addinga new “track” for students, allowing them to choose a concentration within the physics majorbased on their future plans. These changes were designed to provide students with increasedknowledge of physics and technical, scientific, and academic skills required to achieve success inlater academic programs or in technical fields in the workforce. The skills targeted were selectedbased on national trends in employment of physics degree recipients.We present

2001, as a research assistant at SFB609 in Dresden from 2002-2004, and is now part of the Team of the MuLF-Centre (Multimedia Center for eLearning, eTeaching & eResearch at the TU Berlin). In the past two years, Olivier Pfeiffer focused on the organization and coordination of the involved teams and contributed to several other eLTR related projects. He is also involved in the planning and application of future eLTR projects at the Berlin University of Technology. His research interest focuses on the development of interactive mathematical objects especially supporting the visualization of complex mathematics and physics related problems. Contact Information
