goals.Through departmental self-studies, Industrial Advisory Board recommendations and internshipprograms we identified programming skills as an area to strengthen in the curriculum,particularly for physics students. We now devote roughly 1/3 of class and lab time in our introcourse to Excel and programming. Encouraging algorithmic thinking and working within theconstrained environment of a programming language helps reinforce the structured approach todesign and problem solving introduced earlier in the course. Experience has also shown thatmany students have an easier time learning programming when coupled with hardware sincethey can see the effect of code running in the real world. , we construct the final prototype. In this case,we wrapped the 28 gauge copper wire a 1000 times. First, we tested the system by moving theelevator at the same speed as we did earlier and were able to optimize the electric potential at 0.6- 2 V.
