-2006 SL was incorporated intoa total of 38 undergraduate engineering courses taught by 32 professors and 5 teaching staffserving 721 undergraduate students. In 2006-2007 there were 39 undergraduate engineeringcourses that included SL taught by 31 faculty with a combined enrollment of more than 1250students. The main approach of the SLICE program to integrate SL into existing courses is theopposite of the EPICS program which created a series of separate courses with SL projects.SLICE does include some specifically interdisciplinary PBSL courses in the Junior and Senioryear, including Community-based Engineering Design Project II and III and the IntercollegiateEngineering Capstone Design Project. 8,9 Global Perspective ProgramAnother

, Northeastern UniversityAbstractCommunity partnerships comprise a core aspect of the Engineers Without Borders–USA (EWB-USA) mission. Since its inception in 2000 as a single chapter at the University of Colorado atBoulder, EWB-USA has grown to incorporate well over 250 chapters working with communitiesin 43 developing countries. This is largely through the efforts of young engineering students andtheir mentors. The overarching mission of EWB is primarily to provide support for communitiesin the developing world, by applying a broad range of engineering principles to generatesustainable solutions in challenging settings. produce superiorresults. Cognitive diversity can take a variety of forms, but in this work diversity of personalitytypes is explored. The impact of cognitive styles on team performance was evaluated in afreshman environmental engineering (EVEN) course. The students worked on projects involvingcomparative analysis and some calculations, but no design or intrinsically “creative”requirements. Specifically, student teams in 2006, 2007, and 2008 evaluated solid wastelandfills. In 2006 and 2007 the project encompassed three or four periods of in-class directionand work time. In 2008, the project was modified to compare the energy and environmentalimpacts of landfills to waste-to-energy incinerators and included only two class periods withinstructor

Due tochanges in the survey over time, the values represent an average of either 24 alumni responses tothe 2007 and 2008 surveys or the 15 responses to the 2008 survey. The alumni rate theimportance of almost all of the program objective areas as high (4) to extremely high (5).Expanding the list of objectives further may expand the number of highly rated items. But theseoutcomes may be lost within an also extensive list of knowledge domain requirements. proposed minor on‘Sustainability’ at a public university in the southeast United States. The minor is intended toreach across different disciplines such as Biology, Chemistry, Geology, Business, Engineeringand the Visual Arts. The case is made for a standalone minor in sustainability that encompassesfactors such as carbon footprint, limited resources, renewable energy, and the business case forsustainability. It also stresses on the importance of a capstone course that emphasizes handsexperience in designing sustainable systems (products or services).Different aspects of a multifaceted issue such as sustainability are addressed using a QFDapproach to ensure objectivity and quality of course material as well as instruction.IntroductionThere has
