require engineering professors teaching capstone courses to spendconsiderable time evaluating student writing. Varied teaching tools and methods to convey theimportance of communication in professional environments may also be incorporated to enhancestudent learning. Clear communication within an engineering capstone course is important forstudents and engineering instructors.  The work in progress describes an effort to improve communication and assessment of studentlearning in an industrial engineering capstone course. To better assess learning objectives, several changes were made to the curriculum over a four-year period. The changes include thedevelopment of a course guide, updated rubrics, project charter discussions, teamworkassessments

with the easeof access to such Gen AI tools have raised a lot of questions about ethics, authorship and academicintegrity [25], [27]. While academics are still exploring the possible applications of Gen AI in education [27], severalresearchers agreed that Gen AI literacy is essential in education [28], [29], [30]. Some educators andresearchers argue that several AI tools like the writing assistance tools may enhance the learningexperience by providing automated assistance [31]. AI has also been explored as a creative collaboratorin various fields, such as game level design and computational tools for creative writing, where it is seenas a potential source of new ideas and support for designers' goals [32], [33], [34]. solving and the level of potential development as determined through problem-solving under adult guidance, or in collaboration with more capable peers" [17, p. 86].Scaffolding describes the support or guidance provided as the learner engages in a task thatcannot currently be completed independently.Three types of scaffolding strategies were considered: cognitive, metacognitive, and affective.Cognitive scaffolding is employed to assist students as they systematically seek to answer andsolve the “wicked problem” with which they are presented (e.g., providing specific, expert helpregarding how to dissect the large problem into smaller sub-problems such as identifying suitablemetrics, classifying the types of relevant variables available in the data

Engineering-specific courses), the majorityof which were mandatory, for evaluating and monitoring students' competencies throughoutthe three stages.b) Developing evaluation rubrics The first step in developing rubrics is to divide competencies into learning outcomes, which are smaller operational units related to the three types of knowledge (to know, to do,and to be) (e.g., [29], [33] - [35]). Defining learning outcomes and developing rubrics wasbased on the Agencia Nacional de Evaluación y de la Calidad y Acreditación's support guidefor writing and evaluating learning outcomes [36]. The construction of the evaluation rubricsfor the Industrial Engineering Program involved the professors of the selected courses basedon the performance of 15

ownership. Her learners then analyzedtheir results and completed a written analysis report over their findings utilizing what theylearned in their English Language Arts class regarding technical writing. The results of theircross-curricular learning were then presented to their peers. At a Junior High School STEMcampus, letting learners experience a real-world problem and using industry equipment toinvestigate and analyze results is extremely important. This project allowed her students to testout several types of insulation available and see that the R-values did not impact the overallenergy usage enough to push for the higher R-value product. This went against what theyhypothesized and expected from their research on insulation. Without the NSF

transformation: the theory Mediated Learning Experience (MLE) from Feuerstein[23][26] and Maturana’s understanding of learning as a space of transformation for both thelearner and the teacher [27] [28].Mediated Learning Experience. Feuerstein defines the role of the mediator (or agent) asfundamental to promoting cognitive changes in a student. A teacher, a parent, or anadvantaged peer can fulfill this role, depending on the objective of transformation. Themediator must have maturity, experience, and the ability to organize, reorder, group, andstructure the stimuli or information the student receives based on a specific task or goal [26].This means that the agent mediates between the world and the student (subject), transformingthe stimuli the student
