At the start of the semester students provided a bio outlining their industry experience, academic background, and technical skills. These bios were used to form diverse groups that deliberately paired individuals with complementary expertise and perspectives. The grading in the course is based on a combination of“objective” and “subjective” evaluations. The objective part involves regular presentations ofwork in progress (35% of the overall grade) and a paper/Final report and final presentation (25%),each based on work performed and published articles on the subject matter. The more subjectivecomponents are 20% of the overall grade and 20% for peer evaluations of participation in smallgroup discussions based mostly on completed work, cited articles and Class-Design ExpoPresentations

Instruments Nano AG Dr. Emine Cagin is the CTO of Heidelberg Instruments Nano AG, where the NanoFrazor is developed and supported. She has many years of experience in nanofabrication, through her research and product development work throughout her career. She is enthusiastic about making nanofabrication accessible to students and researchers of many backgrounds.Prof. Nancy Burnham, Worcester Polytechnic Institute Professor Burnham investigates nanomaterials, principally with atomic-force microscopy (AFM). She also teaches AFM to undergraduates and graduate students.
