The two instructors heavily involved students inshaping the design of the course both in the planning process prior to the start of the semester, aswell as through detailed feedback activities during the semester. This paper will explain the goalsof the course and will offer an analysis of student responses to the learning experience--whichwere overwhelmingly positive--based on various feedback mechanisms. Drawing upon theanalysis of these data and on the experience of co-creating and co-teaching this course, we havealso compiled lessons learned about how to design such a course and the most successfultechniques used to achieve desired student outcomes. In the LSE program,iterative revision and recreation of an individualized curriculum and career plan are understoodas signs of success rather than failure or deviation. Students are encouraged to understand anddesign their major as a “whole-person technical degree” that does not require them to pass, toassimilate, to compartmentalize, or to conform to stereotypes. We suggest that this holisticflexibility may disrupt barriers such as impostor syndrome by positioning the student not asimpostor but as designer and creator – even when enrolled in technical courses in which thesex/gender ratio is skewed male. (LMSS).The initial interview with each engineer was semi-structured and focused on employmenthistory, career plans and aspirations, family background, experience of engineering coursework,and other similar themes. The study was grounded inthe premise that ambassadors would benefit from self-efficacy for outreach and its associatedcomponents, including engineering knowledge and professional communication skills. Most ofthe 51 ambassadors responded that they perceived gains in skills to motivate others, resolveinterpersonal conflicts, adjust when things were not going to plan, manage time, engage inteamwork, explain technical concepts, and speak in front of an audience.
