This way, the instructional unit can bridge the gapbetween textbook knowledge and real-world applications. The high school students will learn theselected concept in the context of manufacturing industry through simulation and automationhands-on experimentation. This paper introduces the RET program at the Penn State Behrend’s site. We will start witha program description, the research and curriculum design components, followed by curriculumimplementation and evaluation status to date. A reflection on lessons learned will also be shared.2. RET Program DescriptionThe RET program recruits 13 teachers and community college faculty each year from

The issues regarding the Boeing 737 Max are apowerful backdrop for faculty to highlight the distinction between perceived operating efficiencyand true productivity.2.0 Evolution of Operating Efficiency MeasurementIt may interest manufacturing engineering students that the root of operating efficiency has itsbeginning largely with the industrial revolution which began in England. As early as 1791Benjamin Franklin understood the need to contribute something of value to society each day withthe question, “What good shall I do today?” This was but one of Franklin’s 13 virtues. Hissentiment is reflected and shared by the Engineering Creed as well as the

reduced the modulesneeded to house components and allowed to package the entire system into just 2 different housings. Backhousing secured the Pixy camera, the battery, an Arduino Nano and the ambient light sensor while HUDhousing restrained the OLED and mirrors to reflect the message to the users eyeline. The latest design hadan adjustable HUD module that could move 1.5” vertically and 75◦ horizontally across the face of the wearer. The team was able to reduce the weight of the housings to less than 1 lb. Even with the components theoverall weight became less than similar products seen on the market [9].Electrical Design1. Arduino Nano: This is a lightweight microcontroller operating at 5 V and 19 mA. been developed in the public domain, which includeEXPRESS model, surface graph model, representational primitive model, TTRS model, UMLmodel, XML model, category theory model, GeoSpelling model, relationship model andontology-based model [3]. All these models must be implemented manually and are lack ofautomation.Researchers have been trying to translate the GD&T rules into the language that can berecognized by computer. If successful, the tolerancing process can be completed by computer [4].The researchers categorized the automation sophistication of the GD&T process into three levels. At the first level, GD&T primarily focuses on how to assemble the parts together; at the secondlevel, GD&T will automatically reflect design

Future DirectionsIn this brief review of literature relating to Industry 4.0’s implications for South Korea, it is clearthat Industry 4.0 has the potential to transform South Korea’s future workforce. This developingphenomenon offers several opportunities for researchers. Promising areas for explorationinclude:1. What sorts of competency skills would be required for advanced manufacturing workers tosurvive in Industry 4.0?McKinsey Global Institute [9] recommended that workers seek additional education and trainingto adapt to an automated workplace. In the context of South Korea’s two-year technical collegeprograms, researchers may wish to investigate the extent to which current curricula containsadvanced manufacturing topics and reflects

note in comparing the two surveys is the larger number willing toindicate that they saw no improvement in a particular skill as a senior over when they were ajunior. Further study is needed to determine how much of this is reflective of the skillsdevelopment in the classes versus students being more discerning in their responses afterspending a year in the program. Figure 5. Skills Survey Responses for “Manage and Act Professionally” Skills in MFGE 332The other skill categories show significantly more variability in the student responses. Again, this is not surprising since most of the skills practiced in these classes fall under the problem-solving group. However, even here there can be seen some agreement with the skills-to-outcomes mapping

The team collected eye tracking datafrom the virtual reality activities and future work of this study will focus on analyzing this data todetermine if students are attending to the correct elements while solving engineering problems inthe virtual environments.AcknowledgmentsThis research was supported by NSF award #1830741 and supplement #1905680 (PI: Aqlan). began toorganize around what seemed to be a natural division of physics into its constituent parts –electronics, mechanics, chemical, etc. While engineering became specialized in theorganizational structure of a technical business, schools reflected this specialization as well bycreating majors and even specifying different types of engineering degrees – e.g., mechanical, electrical, industrial. Companies hired based on these degrees. “We need to hire 4 electricalengineers, 6 mechanical engineers and 5 industrial engineers.” Departments were created tomanage these areas of engineering specialization – grouping engineers of similar training – andthe organization pyramid began to form. Each department has group leaders, section heads anddepartment
