be given to different students, but the values used in the problem were changed.The video review modules were used to supplement face-to-face classroom time. The leadinstructor for the course organized the approximately 10 review sessions and determined whichknowledge area(s) would be covered that particular week. Students met once a week for twohours to go over the assigned knowledge area(s). Ideally, the faculty member who recorded thevideo segments came to the class that week and reviewed areas that students struggled with andanswered questions. This pairing of self-directed video study with face-to-face classroom timeallowed the student to fully review the knowledge area and have any concerns resolved.Although this project was geared

I learned to interpret and construct fatigue models and study the life of a mechanical component.” “One of the main lessons learned was to begin the project as if the knowledge of the project is minimal. Make no assumption that the knowledge is already in your mind.” “This project is essentially the first practical project we’ve had in our engineering education that has taught us something about what the real world of engineering is like.”Students learned to be more organized from the start of a project, to make decisions faster, and tocomplete tasks in a timely manner (i.e., time management). Though theclasses were taught in different manners, they were identical in terms of assignments, quizzes,and exams. The classes shared a common Gradescope online grade database, in whichhomework sets, quizzes, and exams were uploaded and graded using a common set of metrics.Homework sets and quizzes were graded by student graders, whereas the exams were graded byinstructors. Each homework, quiz, or exam problem was graded by the same person across allclass sections, e.g. the first midterm exam was graded by only two instructors, who each gradedone of the two exam questions

, oral, visual, electronic) and outcomes(including ABET alignments) as collected by our two years of student survey data. Theincredible success of Year1’s quantitative findings are outlined in full. For example, in responseto our communicative self-efficacy survey, the scores across all communicative modalitiesincreased substantially (changing from low-medium to mid-high range) for all the studentstaking the pilot. In addition, on 17 of the 23 items on the survey, 80% of the pilot students scoredin the high range. We believe that it safe to claim that the pilot has had a profound and verypositive impact on students’ reported communicative self-efficacy in MAE engineering contexts.IntroductionCommunication is ubiquitous in the lives of
