Minority students in search of PhD granting institutions usually wish for faculty rolemodels in the classroom who can inspire them for graduate studies and ultimately becomefaculty members. In their recent study on these issues, Nelson and Rogers 13 concluded that the“presence of science and engineering minority faculty is a crucial factor in encouraging andensuring the continued interest of young minorities in science and engineering.” It was noted thattheir presence is equally
