Further, summer camps offer students exceptional opportunities to engage inlearning experiences, explore advanced technologies, establish meaningful connections with like-minded peers, and better understand future career choices. Therefore, given the benefits ofintervention via summer camps and the lack of research in the identified geographical region, thisresearch aimed to determine the impacts of summer camps developed on a previously publishedframework to determine if the intervention enhanced the participant's STEM and soft skills,knowledge, future career, and educational choices of female students from R-ISD. Leading with soft skills can cause them to disengage.” o “In order to engage effectively, it is imperative to plan and prepare a "skeleton" of a lesson plan which enables me to ask the right open ended questions in the correct sequence with follow up questions to supplement. Having an open ended conversation tends to engage the mentees more. barriers to graduate education specific to underrepresented minorities have beenidentified [14-20]. To address some of these challenges, the BTD program as envisioned wouldprovide continuity for the Level 1 students participating in the NYC LSAMP. The design of theBTD programs attempts to actively remove some of these barriers for high performing students(GPA of 3.0 or higher). The cohort model is used to create a learning community with facultymentorship, a stipend and educational allowance to remove the financial barriers, GREpreparation to address preparation for doctoral programs requiring the GRE scores, developmentof communication/soft skills, as well as the opportunity for international research experiences.NYC LSAMP Level 1 undergraduate

students have more opportunities at a 4-yearinstitution for numerous reasons: More resources, employers having events on campus to hirestudents, networking with other students and mentors, etc. Professors are essential to a student’ssuccess, not only in the classroom but in mentorship. Mentorship allows students to grow in theirtechnical and soft skills, which are essential to students thriving after graduation.
