initiated itsfirst cohort of 20 students in fall 2009. Funded through an NSF S-STEM grant, theinterdisciplinary, multi-year, mixed academic-level offering awards scholarships to studentsbased on academic merit and financial need. SEECS is an opportunity for students in certainSTEM majors at Gannon University, Erie, PA, in the School of Engineering and ComputerScience. The goals of the scholarship program are (1) to increase the number of academicallytalented, but financially disadvantaged students in the stated majors, (2) to assist students to besuccessful in their undergraduate education, and (3) to foster professional development forcareers or graduate education. These goals are realized through the students shared interactionswithin the SEECS

initialscholarship recipients left the program to pursue non-STEM majors where theycould help others and four left for that they perceived to be less time consumingundergraduate programs so that they could spend more time working or on socialactivities.In this program, NSF S-STEM scholarships were awarded to 15 students. Therequirements for students to maintain their NSF scholarship were continuousenrollment in courses leading toward a STEM degree, 3.0 GPA, and activeparticipation in the one-credit course associated with the scholarship eachsemester. Ultimately, the course creation proposal was signed by the chair of eachdepartment before moving forward through normal undergraduate curriculum approval channels.Course creation took approximately 1.5 years to marshal through university processes and takeeffect. During the life of the S-STEM project, three cohorts of undergraduates engaged inmultidisciplinary senior design projects: 2015-2016; 2016-2017; 2017-2018. Only the finalcohort (2017-2018) was able to enroll in GEEN 4301/4302. In 2016-2017, students enrolled inselected topics courses as a stop-gap while the course creation process was underway, and theselected topics courses were substituted for the relevant senior design courses

Auzenne, New Mexico State University Michele Auzenne has 18 years of experience managing student support programs and has served as Pro- gram Manager and Assistant Director for the New Mexico Alliance for Minority Participation (New Mex- ico AMP) since 1997. She has served in the same capacity for the NMSU Hewlett Foundation Engineering Schools of the West Initiative (ESWI), the NSF Scholarships in STEM (S-STEM), the NSF STEM Talent Expansion Program (STEP), among others. Ms. Auzenne holds a B.A. in English and an M.A. in Tech- nical
