Shifts in how doctoral students view themselves and their peers, their mentors,the field, and generated knowledge occur throughout the research education process.Simultaneously, students proceed through the process of taking on or rejecting values and valuesystems (axiology) that are proliferated and perpetuated in their professional field of study. Inaddition to messages conveyed from graduate development within engineering environments,graduate students also bring their beliefs about knowledge
