. In partnership with the educational branch of the New England Patriots, Mr. Boncek designed the ’Power to Hear’ engineering design challenge to encourage students to explore areas of STEM especially those related to communications systems. Mr. Boncek has been a technical advisor in the ”Science-of-Sports” program for four years. engineeringeducation is strong on imparting some kinds of knowledge, it is not very effective in preparingstudents to integrate their knowledge, skills, and identity as developing professions … In theengineering science and technology courses, the tradition of putting theory before practice andthe effort to cover technical knowledge comprehensively allow little opportunity for students tohave the kind of deep learning experiences that mirror professional practice and problemsolving.”Development of Systems Thinking SkillsSince “systems thinking” skills are an integral part of Systems Engineering attributes, Davidzand Nightingale [21] provide research data concerning the levels of significance of experientiallearning.Integration of Systems Engineering Courses

instrument to help studentsto learn how to work collaboratively. ABET Criterion 3Ad or 3Be intends for students toexperience the nature of a future work environment. It enables the faculty member to assume therole of “coordinator,” who schedules meetings and insures that all team members know whatthey are supposed to do and the allowable time limitations. This outcome has not always been the case in our experience. Team members would oftencomplain about the assigned tasks of other members, incomplete material received, andineffective communication among team members. For this reason, we felt the need for increasedemphasis on teamwork and to assess team interactions so as to insure quality of the final productor report.Another concern was to establish

University’s Master of Sciencein Electrical Engineering program highlighted a significant improvement in the quality of thestudent capstone when the students elected to substitute systems engineering courses for theproject management courses. Projects tended to be more organized, and include strongerevaluations of practicality and performance of the final project. The Professors Santiago and Kasley have instructed several graduate several courses inelectrical, computer and systems engineering, and observed the improvement in student workwhen challenged to use of system-level thinking. This provided one key reason whyengineering faculty wanted to adopt a system engineering approach. In addition, the localcampus has a heavy military presence, and systems
