general method with broad applications toidentify the influences of various variations on the systems or processes. It is traditionally afundamental course offered to students in various ISE programs across the American universities. This paper presents a recent effort at a research university in the U.S. to integrate renewableenergy topics into the traditional DOE course to help ISE students update their knowledge baseand foster environmental responsibility and sustainability awareness in their future careers. Anew topic related to the manufacturing of a specific form of renewable energy, cellulosic biofuel, has been integrated into an eight-week course project session. The course-end evaluation andsurvey have shown a significant increase of

consider entering systems engineering career paths; and, • An increased familiarity with the systems engineering process, systems analysis methods and tools, and system operational maintenance for the software engineering students who consider careers in software development for large-scale systems. There is consensus among the industry practitioners that superior requirements engineering iscritical for the development of quality systems[6]. Moreover, academe people consider that thesoftware industry use of requirements engineering is obstructed by relatively poor understandingof requirements engineering practices and benefits. In this context, teaching requirementsengineering at university level becomes a critical responsibility

Chair and the University’s Academic Director. He received his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and M.S. in Industrial Automation from the National University of Colombia in 1995 and 2000, respectively. As part of his early career development in 1995, he started a machine design company in Colombia, but then in 1999, he moved to Spain and worked for Tekniker R&D designing ultraprecision machines. In 2001, Dr. Tovar was selected for the prestigious Fulbright fellowship program and earned his M.S. and Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Notre Dame in 2004 and 2005, respectively. As a graduate student at Notre Dame, while studying bone functional adaptation, Dr. Tovar proposed a structural

Nevertheless, low enrollment of Hispanics inSTEM disciplines and lack of professionals in STEM-specific careers is a major concern tomany. As a major Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI) in southern Texas, __ University has beenengaged in providing quality education in STEM disciplines to Hispanic and other minoritycommunities. The university intends to reduce the class drop rate for early college education inengineering, mathematics, and physics curriculums. According to the enrollment in Fall 2013 theuniversity has more than 7,431 students who are studying in

He served for two and a half years as a research mathematician at the international operations and process research laboratory of the Royal Dutch Shell Company. While at Shell, Dr. Mazzuchi was involved with reliability and risk analysis of large processing systems, maintenance optimization of off-shore platforms, and quality control procedures at large scale chemical plants. During his academic career, he has held research contracts in development of testing procedures for both the U.S. Air Force and the U.S. Army, in spares provisioning modeling with the U. S.
