the involved faculty. The resulting radio telescope projectprovides university undergraduate students with the ability to learn the basics of radio astronomythrough the easily accessible small-scale radio telescope system.IntroductionThis project was developed as an extension of a collaborative project between studentengineering and astronomy clubs. The members of the capstone team took on the design of thecontrol system and coordination of the overall project. During the initial development of theproject, a system block diagram was established as shown in Figure 1. This block diagram givesan overview of the major components of a radio telescope system. It was divided into threemajor sections, which were then assigned to task teams. In this

higher impact in their capstone design projects, and they might be better prepared to establishmore “useful” [19] interactions with their stakeholders.4.1 LimitationsThe findings from this study are limited by the number of participants in our sample and that is whygeneralizations cannot be made at this time. However, it is our intention to continue our study with a largergroup of participants to gain more insights. Another limitation is that students were working in a fictionalscenario given in an academic setting in this study. Engaging with stakeholders in a real-world environmentcan affect participants’ perceptions of who are the stakeholders and how to engage various stakeholders.Stakeholder identification and engagement from the student’s

and Modeling course wereused to test the effects of utilizing non-traditional assessments and the change in studentperceptions by incorporating DEI topics.Case StudiesThis research piloted two cases of incorporating DEI topics in the classroom and one non-traditional assessment methodology. A Senior Design Project and a course in Systems Thinkingand Modeling were utilized. Each of these cases are documented.Case I: DEI In The Curriculum, Senior Design ProjectConceptAt the time this was conducted, the capstone senior design sequence was the same for allengineering students, requiring a one credit seminar, followed by a two and then a three creditsenior design course. The seminar is taken in the junior year and in it, all potential projects

Robust Design and (4) Capstone Projectsfor System Design. Courses in the SE embedded systems certificate included (1) Embedded andNetworked Systems Modeling Abstractions, (2) Formal Methods, (3) Design Flows forEmbedded and Networked Systems, and (4) Capstone Projects for Embedded Systems. Coursesin the controlled systems certificate included (1) Foundations of Thermal Fluid Systems, (2)Foundations for Control, (3) Design Flows for Control and Verification, and (4) CapstoneProjects for Controlled Systems. These graduate courses were offered in the evenings in-personand were run as cohorts with about 30-40 students in each cohort. The cohort followed theprescribed sequence of four courses across four semesters over two years. Courses were
