ETS scholars could renew their scholarships for up to three semesters (approximately2 years) if they demonstrated progress toward their degrees and maintained a minimum 2.75cumulative grade point average (GPA). Students who fell below the requirements were placed ona one-semester probation period and received a counseling session with their academic facultyadvisors to discuss academic difficulties.In addition to the scholarships, ETS participants attended the Success Seminar Series along withstudents participating in the TAMU Engineering Living Learning Community (ELLC). Above all other professions,engineering has the power to change the world on a large scale. Since I started to take my mentorship duties seriously, and I started reading aboutmentoring and visiting websites dedicated to mentoring, I realized that my vision and myphilosophy are similar in some ways to other mentors, but in some ways, they also are quiteunique. Upon discussing them with other faculty, I could see that when people write aboutmentoring they make it appear more institutionalized and well regulated but when they talkabout it, mentors emphasize the personal touch and the relationships that they developindividually

summer internship position or taking summer courses to ensure their timelytransfer.The ASPIRES Summer Group Internship Program is a ten-week program for sophomorestudents who have no previous research experience and have at least one more year of courses tocomplete at Cañada College before transferring to a four-year university. In addition to allowingstudents to participate in the program as part-time interns, the group setting wherein studentswork with their peers and faculty they know will give students the supportive learningenvironment needed to succeed in their first internship experience. like your effort linearly translates into a goodacademic result.”Overall, transfer students find that the educational environment at UC Davis emphasizes gradesinstead of understanding concepts. Academically, these students do well, and self-report thattheir community colleges adequately prepared them for UC Davis (as discussed in the secondtheme). Survey data indicates that there is no significant difference in GPA dissatisfaction ascompared to traditional students. However, transfer students spend more time on their coursesthan their peers. The average transfer student self-reports spending 16-20 hours per weekstudying and on other academic activities outside of class, whereas the average traditionalstudent only spends 11-15 hours per week on
