City, little change in the course sequence is needed; however faculty mustrestructure their syllabi to introduce the design early, and center individual and group projectsaround one aspect of the design. Obviously, an entire course is not be devoted to Sooner City;rather it provides motivation for learning theory and application. Opportunities to connect theprogram to other departments are being explored.2) $Just-in-Time# LearningWe believe, as do faculty at other institutions6,14,23, that student interest, and hence learning, ismaximum when they can see the application behind the theory. Sooner City was chosen preciselyfor this reason, i.e., to provide justification and motivation for learning design concepts. Weintroduce the appropriate

function on multi-disciplinary teams.” The University of Michigan has developed a model for leadership based on developing“skills” that are applicable for different leadership or citizenship roles. Each student has differinggoals and capabilities around mastering their “leadership” potential. The College of Engineering hasestablished a minimum level of team skills required for each of our graduates. These involve skills inrelating with team members, in accepting roles and responsibilities that contribute to the team, and indeveloping and implementing effective group decisions. We will assist students who choose tomaster skills in “team building” and “leadership” beyond the requirements to get the neededinstruction and practice. There

direction of the group. Earlydiscussions took the form of four thrusts : engagement strategies, questioning strategies, lessonplanning, and assessment. Today, these four thrusts continue to serve as points of departure forfaculty inquiry, experimentation, and discussion.Early sessions introduce participants to active learning strategies. While there are many reasonsthat prompt faculty to join LEA/RN groups, an often stated reason is the desire to find ways toengage students more actively with course content and issues related to a topic. To this end, initial discussions among faculty explore various ways that instructors can structure learningexperiences for students that promote more student involvement (e.g. activities that providestudents

willsoon be seriously outdated. Coupled with the WWW are the related critical areas of datamanagement, collaborative efforts, and associated niche issues such as data exchange standardsand developments. Engineering design programs have long advocated the importance of teammethodology and concurrent engineering, with common data access, so the step to include thesenew areas should be logical and reasonable. Unfortunately, they will most likely be difficult toincorporate into existing academic programs. To provide realistic training in collaborativeengineering and the Web, for example, programs will need to provide for more cross-functionaland cooperative learning activities, where students from various majors, and even differentcampuses or
