In total, the annual budgetis approximately $6,500, for a program that affects upward of 20 faculty and academic staff annually. 3Faculty participants see more benefits; for example, there are (independent of the NFLC) modest start-up packages that new faculty access through an internal grant process. The start-up packages are opento all new faculty, but those who attend the NFLC programming are able to share and refine their ideasin the space afforded by the community. In short, it behooves a new faculty member to attend thesemeetings so they can write a stronger proposal.Faculty are also introduced to best practices for retaining URMs and scholarship in that area throughcollaboration
