Before such presentations, the students practice a model teampresentation (with speaker notes in the notes pages of the PowerPoint) beforehand. That practiceincludes a rehearsal with the writing instructor the evening before the classroom performance.Mentors generally receive no formal training before mentoring sessions on speaking and writing.However, mentors do receive access to the assignments and lecture slides, which they arefamiliar with from their own course experience. In addition, the mentors receive emailsdiscussing particular questions and issues that have arisen in class this semester. For instance, ifthe
unusual in that it would logically follow that boys’ interestswould be less affected by their endorsement of girls in a particular field. In line with thisassumption, our results also suggest that boys have higher levels of interest in mathematics andtechnology, while endorsement does not play a role in this relationship. Why these relationshipsexist is conjecture. However, one of our researchers suggests boys may be playing a protectiverole over girls who like mathematics, science and STEM. The reasons for these results are worthfurther study since they may have an impact on how to create and maintain not only diversity,but inclusivity, maintaining both individuality and a socio-cultural collaborative team [53].Although most of us respond with
learning goals and explore potential new learninggoals.Qualitative DataA total of 297 weekly reflection papers and 27 final papers from 27 undergraduate studentsacross two independent cohorts served as the source of data for this qualitative research study.For the weekly reflection papers, the students were asked to reflect on their experiences duringthe weekly T-Group. The students were asked to write a reflection about situations which had asignificant impact on them. The weekly reflection papers enabled the author to perform alongitudinal analysis in regards to the student’s development of their authentic leadership skillsand to conduct triangulation of the data between individuals, peers, and facilitator.For the final papers (min. 3,500 words

Janet Y. Tsai is a researcher and instructor in the College of Engineering and Applied Science at the University of Colorado Boulder. Her research focuses on ways to encourage more students, especially women and those from nontraditional demographic groups, to pursue interests in the eld of engineering. Janet assists in recruitment and retention efforts locally, nationally, and internationally, hoping to broaden the image of engineering, science, and technology to include new forms of communication and problem solving for emerging grand challenges.
