Project ScopeThe initial step in the architectural design process was the development of a list of the types offacilities required to support the functions of the school and provide the necessaryaccommodations for the student body. WhenUniversity Trustee Dennis Keller ’63 made the generous gift to the School of Engineering for anew building, the library received a new home in the Friend Center for Engineering Education.Designed by internationally acclaimed architect Henry Cobb of Pei, Cobb, Freed and Partners,Friend Center opened its doors in September 2001. Additionally, online surveys allow geographically distantrespondents to be reached, increasing the population available to be surveyed. addition, there is the problem of getting classroom assessment from facultywho are not in the engineering or technology department that is being accredited. In view ofthese problems, I believe that the technical courses in the curriculum should contribute to theteaching and assessment of the soft-skills.
