is often a specialized structural system not necessarily covered in priormaterial design courses. While writing this paper the ARCE 415 section has seven studentsfocusing on mass timber, and in the past thin-shell concrete designs and other complex buildingtypologies have been explored. The class consists of assorted lectures focused on teaching theARCE students about the structural design for this new material or form, group meetings withstudents from the other disciplines, and a comprehensive team project that the ARCE studentscontribute to by producing the structural system calculations and construction drawings. options for making the same product. As shown in Table 4,about half of the students chose to work alone and half in groups. This was true for both the firstand second project. In 2024 working in a group was widely preferred and in 2022 working alonewas widely preferred. Most students stayed with the same modality of working alone or with thesame peers on both the first and second project, and only a few groups split up after the firstproject (1 or 2 per term) and few new ones formed.
