This halts their critical thinking process, and it shows whenstudents blindly copy examples that do not fit the context of the given problem. Summer Bridge is an opportunity to engage students in a strong foundationalalgebra curriculum to ensure precalculus readiness by their first semester of postsecondaryeducation—that is, their first fall with the STEM Core. These math courses also aim to build cohortcohesion and community by delivering them with a learning community cohort model. All butone of 12 sites offered non-credit math courses for the Summer Bridge. Recently, the Mechanical Engineering Department at The University ofIowa introduced undergraduate and graduate certificate programs in artificial intelligence,modeling, and simulations (AIMS) that aim to teach students: (1) the importance of uncertaintyquantification, (2) the various types of combinations (e.g., modeling and simulation-assistedmachine learning) and hybrid approaches, and (3) using hybrid models toward the design ofintelligent complex machines. Furthermore,many case studies have also been limited to documenting changes in course maps or the explicitcurriculum, i.e., what is overt in the documentation.
