Examining1-hour, 1 12 -hour, and 3-hour formats for a 3-credit course, the authors determined that “[s]tudentsfind the moderate class format significantly more appealing than either of the other two formatsbased both on the attitude toward the class formats and students’ preference for the class formats,”though there was only a marginal impact on student grades [3]. The instructor and GTA found thatgrading was easier and more satisfying due to the ability to spend time commenting on how toimprove and what was good about a student’s work. Lastly the instructor felt that herinteractions with students were overall better with SBG than with traditional point-basedgrading.References[1] Nilson, L.B., Specifications Grading: Restoring Rigor, Motivating Students, and SavingFaculty Time, Routledge, 2014.[2] Blum, S. The treatment variable was defined as Curric-ular Complexity. The following model specification was used to estimate the GPS: GP S(T ) = P (Ti = t|Xi ) (1) 5In this equation, Ti represents the treatment received by student i, and Xi is the vector of covariatesfor student i.The primary objective of calculating GPS was

pattern described above wasgenerally adequate to the needs of the students working as peer mentors. Yet, about one-fifth ofthe peer mentors felt that too little time had been spent training them while over half felt too littletime was spent in direct interaction with students. In fact, one informant stated in a follow-on querythat s/he had received no training. As is the case in most programming with a broad implementationfootprint, there would have been individual variation in the general approach taken. There alsowould have been a range of preferences for level and types of support or interaction among thestudents recruited to be peer mentors. These circumstances appear to be reflected in the surveyresults including one party noting not being
