found that while the number of students who had been exposed to ideassuch as engineering design increased over a five-year period, the number of students with noexposure to engineering design remained the same, about 10% [1].The question for first year courses then becomes: How can we equally engage students withdiverse backgrounds in engineering knowledge? While this question is very broad, this paperlooks at a redevelopment of computer aided design (CAD) activities to help engage studentsacross a breadth of experiences.
