Laboratories.Structural vibrations were induced by placing an alternating voltage on a cofabricated actuation padlocated under the microcantilevers near their anchor point. Excitation at judiciously chosenfrequencies, aided by theoretical predictions, coupled with sweeps of increasing or decreasingfrequencies led to either the partial or complete repair of the stiction failed MEMS structures.Theoretical predictions aided us in choosing the frequencies at which to drive the MEMS cantileversfor their repair. characteristics, length of HAZ, and martensite content of welds were determined inwire rods of two different grades of steel (with high and low resistances) welded with selectedcombinations of welding variables. The work was carried out in association with Gerdau Ameristeel,Beaumont (GAB) at their plant. The main observations made in this work are summarized below.In general better tensile strength is obtained when wire rods of higher resistivity are welded, while largeramount of flash to flush away inclusions, less weld cracks, smaller HAZ and lower amount of martensitein HAZ are obtained when wire rods of lower resistivity are welded. Baylor’s School of Engineering and ComputerScience (ECS) is a small and young addition to Baylor’s undergraduate academic constellation. Formore than a decade a frequent complaint by Baylor ECS students has been that the Office of CareerServices and the Career Fairs had little to offer them.
