requirement. While the current program extends from summer through the fall term, students have manyopportunities throughout their first year for interactions with other students, faculty, andengineering professionals through a variety of co-curricular experiences related to theirdevelopment as an engineering professional, some of which are required. Students also havemany opportunities for career exploration as well as significant academic and student successsupport. Opportunities are provided for upper-level AcES students to interact with each year’snew cohort.Funding was provided by the WVU Statler College of Engineering and Mineral Resources from2012 through 2016 and by NSF from 2016 – 2019 (with scholarship funding for previous AcESstudents continuing

provide a comprehensive review of college student mentoring research from 1990 to 2007.A key conclusion was that many mentoring studies have not been theoretically-based. Thisdeficiency had been recognized in a similar review by Jacobi in 1991. One consequence is a lackof common definition of mentoring in the literature. Another is difficulty in identifying the keycomponents of the mentoring relationship that are most critical in supporting students' academicsuccess. Crisp and Cruz point out that 'mentoring' may not be generalizable across studentpopulations (4-year vs. 2-year, majority vs. minority, different majors/career tracks, peer vs.faculty mentoring, etc.). Thus, continued investigation of potential links between mentoringattributes and

Currently it is a one semester long 5 creditscourse offered in the spring (two sections) and the summer. Class sizes have varied widely from15 students in the summer session to over 50 students in each section of

, which is more significant, and agreater desire for a career in the STEM field. The time restriction and lack of communityinvolvement were portrayed as the main challenges to the development of the approach. However,it is clear that the strategies could bring significant professional development for teachers on theSTEM approach, as well as the integration of the community, which consequently improveslearning, where everyone, students, teachers, and the community has the opportunity to realize theimportance of STEM education not only at school but for life in general 6. A study collected through questionnaires generating qualitative and quantitative resultswas placed. The study intended to demonstrate the knowledge and strategies organized

isbecoming increasingly important in many industries and organizations. The ability to effectivelycollect, store, process, and analyze large-scale data sets is becoming critical for businesses to gaininsights, make informed decisions, and stay competitive. As a result, there is a growing demandfor professionals who have the skills and knowledge to work with big data systems. A big datasystems course can provide students with the skills and knowledge they need to work with large-scale data sets and use data-driven approaches to solve real-world problems. It can also preparestudents for careers in a variety of industries, such as finance, healthcare, e-commerce, and more. The objective of this work in progress is to share the experience of designing a

onsafety and public welfare and the need on environmental protection by incorporating carbonfootprint reduction in future designs used in the oil and gas industry. This will need collaborationfrom petroleum and natural gas engineering, mechanical engineering, civil engineering, environmental engineering, and many other engineering disciplines. Challenging today’s first-year engineers to create safe, cost-efficient, and environmentally friendly oil derricks is not onlya way to introduce students to a task they may face in their future engineering careers, but alsoan opportunity for them to think about alternative solutions as future leaders. Therefore, it isnecessary for multidisciplinary collaboration amongst engineering, business, local

for students preparing for a career in automation.IntroductionThe Cognex equipment was purchased through the Rapids Grants from the State of Ohio. Arequest for a vision system was made and the Cognex name was given as a potential source of acomplete vision system. Nothing was known about Cognex at the time, just the name. They hadbeen good at advertising their brand in trade journals and other automation magazines. The cameras were purchased and delivered in late 2019. They sat in their delivery boxes forquite some time. There was no time do anything at the time they were delivered and then Covidhit. As Covid slowly gave way to ‘normal’, a student asked to do an independent project so hewas asked if he would like to explore the PLC/Cognex

development of astudent into an engineer and students are required to undertake three co-op assignments as acondition for graduation. This practice allows students to explore careers in companies of manydifferent industries and sizes. It allows engineering and computer science students to gain realworld practical experiences in their field of interest while gaining skills and practices that are notable to be learned in the classroom. That said, the developmental and educational outcomes canbe affected by the nature of the co-op. Research shows that socialization, mentorship as well asa positive and nurturing work environment have a quantifiable effect on student wellbeing anddevelopment6.At the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic, the world was forced to

what types ofquestions remain to be answered. One gap that seems to exist in bridge programs is career preparation; while this may not besignificant at some schools, it could be an issue at those colleges and universities that have asignificant emphasis on co-op or internship experiences, particularly if they are integrated into thecurriculum at an early stage of students’ education. Another gap in the literature is in thecomparison of virtual, hybrid, and fully online programs. The growth of virtual programsnecessitated by the COVID-19 pandemic may begin to fill this gap, but long-term data will not beavailable until the programs have been running for several years, and will present the limitationthat any differences in the programs’ results
