Data from the 10 participants are analyzed using a multi-step coding process involving threeresearchers, and key themes are extracted. Findings provide evidence-based support for manycommon design elements of doctoral programs, such as the “front loading” of coursework to developresearch interest and capabilities, and the importance of initiating research collaboration with thedissertation chair early in the student’s program.
