expectations and learningoutcomes further increasing the opportunity for success? Can an assessment as learning beutilized by engineering educators to demonstrate the principles of technical contract review using asyllabus as the contract further increases students’ understanding? Method An online engineering mechanics course conducted during the 2023 summer sessionincluded an assignment where 125 students were asked to review the syllabus and complete aquiz. Questions to the quiz could be answered by reading the syllabus. For example, students wereasked questions on office hours policy, alignment of assessments to topics, and prerequisiteknowledge. The instructor recorded emails received from
students to keep track of their progress throughout the semester. Thisis especially true in an online class since they don’t have a scheduled class time that is normal inan in-person class. Also, many students work full-time or take internship opportunities, they maynot be as focused. Table 2 provides a sample checklist developed for this class.Table 2 – Sample ChecklistChecklist of Course work – Keep track of your progress throughout the course by checking offcompleted items.Week 1Start Here Module: ❑ Read all the required pages in the Start Here module ❑ Watch the Instructor Video ❑ Read the syllabus – note any questions to ask instructor ❑ Post self-introduction in the discussionModule 1 June 26 – July 2 ❑ Review weekly
integrated in this regard and the STEM acronym was elevated to STEAM [14]. However,STEAM did not gain as much steam as STEM yet, and it is not as popular either.Qualifications Required for the Position of Instructor for Engineering Courses:A scan of more than one hundred online announcements for engineering faculty positions atvarious institutes of higher education in the US and a few parts of the world was executed. Itrevealed expected similarities as well as differences in listing the qualifications needed tobecome an instructor for engineering courses. Showing full details on this scan here is ratherlong and tedious, and therefore it is not necessary especially many of the details are repetitive. In lieu of that, a relatively shorter tabulated
complex problems, evaluate alternativesolutions, and make informed decisions. AI-driven support mechanisms challenge students to thinkcritically, question assumptions, and consider multiple perspectives. This holistic approach toproblem-solving encourages students to address both technical and ethical dimensions of engineer-ing challenges, leading to a more comprehensive understanding of the issues they face.To further evaluate the impact of Generative AI on student performance, ABET outcomes wereassessed for projects listed in the syllabus. Projects from the previous year served as a controlgroup. In lower-level courses, students were required to develop fundamental technical writingskills applied to practical problems, while in higher-level
