Finally, the “road show” phase focuses on presenting the project in a number ofmediums and venues. This includes posters presented at an end-of-year CS showcase and forparents leading up to graduation; and a final, eight minute presentation of their project to a broadaudience (we invite other faculty, alumni, and all CS students) with an emphasis on giving ahigh-level motivation and description of what was accomplished. Throughout the year, weschedule practice presentations for the students all with the aim of culminating

Beyond just documenting practices,studies and research have been completed 6, 8 and are currently being conducted on the value ofadditional outreach programs to ensure that the organization’s efforts are effective and targetedat the correct age ranges. viii. Teacher TrainingRepeated reference has been made to the importance of the teacher in STEM education. Rapidlychanging technologies and communications systems make it difficult for classroom teachers toremain current. Time and financial restrictions do not allow them to repeatedly take advantageof sabbaticals or leaves of absence for retraining. A major concern, however, is that success rates in U.S.colleges and universities are still low. The National first- to second-year retention rate in 4-yearpublic institutions averages 65.6% and the mean for the National 5-year graduation rate of 4-yearpublic institutions is 37.9
