Emerging issuessuch as energy security, environmental impacts, and ethical responsibility of energyprofessionals are discussed in lectures and student projects.Upon completion of the course, students are expected to Describe conventional and alternative sources of energy, benefits and limitations of each primary energy source, and social responsibility of energy generation and consumption Analyze and design integrated energy generation and storage systems Analyze the cost-effectiveness of power generation systems Evaluate the environmental and social impacts of
ethical (i.e. authenticity of the material) as well as quality ofthe textbook. It also allows teachers to keep ownership of their work and make changes whennecessary. In two semesters of our trial study, we found that 100% of our students purchased thetextbook. In conclusion, we feel that self-publishing high quality textbooks have the potential tochange education for the better and we plan to continue using them in our classrooms in thesemesters ahead. © American Society for Engineering Education, 2015
