industry. A three credit course inmanufacturing engineering and a three credit course in quality engineering are being offered inthe spring semester in alternate years. We immediately saw the benefit of this arrangement fromthe feedback of our recent graduates in the industry. In this paper, the authors summarize whatwas learned from integrating manufacturing engineering concepts into mechanical designcurriculum, and incorporating global aspects of manufacturing in manufacturing engineeringcurriculum. We will outline some of the changes we have made to the curriculum and thechallenges we have faced. Topics of discussion also include immersing students in an industrialsetting in and outside of classrooms and hands-on project-based experiential

criteria andspirit of ABET EC2000. The criteria that each activity may satisfy and the linkages to theEngineer of 2020 are shown in a subsequent section.Service Learning in EngineeringThe literature is full of service learning in engineering courses developed by other colleges ofengineering indicating that the approaches to service learning are varied. The external stimulifor the development of this type of course may point to the difficulty of identifying faculty anddepartments that view this topic as being within their expertise. Service learning is not typicallypart of an engineering faculty member’s graduate training. Most faculty have not even heard ofservice learning or, even worse, they have a bad impression (volunteerism). Astin, et al

of the currentstate of online Master’s and PhD programs would serve to demonstrate how fast these programshave grown in a short time. The information could also be useful to others who wish to furtherstudy the topic and online engineering education in general. And ultimately it is hoped that thesuccess of the online graduate programs could serve as an example of how to implement onlineeducation at the undergraduate level as well. This study was conducted by exploring the USNews and World Report school rankings and filtering the results to show only schools that offersome type of graduate program in engineering. This search yielded 198 schools that offer either a Proceedings of the 2011 Midwest Section Conference of the American Society

Manifest.XML is a generic file and can be ignored. The remaining XML file is ready for import to Respondus. On a side note, exporting directly from Wimba Diploma to Blackboard will result in a Blackboard Test. Instead, Respondus will export the question variations to Blackboard as a Pool, which is the desired outcome. Figure 13. Using Solve Variables to check solution. . Introducing new material in curriculum typically requires the removal of other material (possibly essential by the faculty and ABET.) This approach must be balanced with the recent push to reduce total credit hours of programs nationwide. 2 2. FE coursework typically is organized around theoretical details considered more appropriate for graduate students who may have a more rigorous mathematical education than undergraduate students. This paper will focus on the development of FE learning modules that can be integrated intoundergraduate courses in mechanics of materials, machine design, and vibrations. complete an end of semester course evaluation form. This paper discusseshow the Department has modified its end of course evaluation form to include a student self-assessment section. This self-assessment section generates indirect assessment data, whichcomplements the traditional direct assessment data.IntroductionUALR offers baccalaureate degrees in Electronics and Computer Engineering Technology(ECET) and Mechanical Engineering Technology (MET). As with all degrees accredited byABET, these degree programs are required to implement a continuous improvement plan (CIP).ABET states that1: “The program must use a documented process incorporating relevant data toregularly assess its program educational objectives and program outcome, and to evaluate

Evaluating Retention of Engineering Problem Solving Skills of First-Year Engineering Students Heath A. Schluterman, Ph.D., Kellie Schneider, C. Richard Cassady, Ph.D. University of ArkansasAbstractOne of the overriding topics in education is determining how well students retain knowledgefrom a particular course. In this study, we wished to evaluate not only the improvement ofproblem solving skills during the Fall semester but also the retention of those skills to thebeginning of the Spring semester. Therefore, in the Fall Semester of 2010, we administered aPre-Test during the first week of the Introduction to Engineering I course. The Pre-Test contentincluded the

and Computer Engineeringstudents to and Engineering Science (ENSC) course recommended for all engineering majors.Although, an ENSC course, it is still taken mostly only by ECE students. The course has about20-40 students each semester, with an even distribution of second semester sophomores and firstsemester juniors. One of the goals of the course revision discussed in this paper is to incorporateskills and topics important to non-ECE engineering students. These include the ability tointerface with peripherals for data acquisition and processing, and to control various peripheraldevices.Students have generally found the course to be interesting and worthwhile (based on studentfeedback over several semesters).
