The singular question of disagreement was whether to have a smallspeaker event or the broader teach-in event and the group was about evenly split with a tendencyto lean toward a decision of going with the smaller event due to lack of time left since we were inmid-spring semester. first hand the issues involved in prototyping and product development. These laboratories are expensive to set up and even more expensive to maintain and staff withwell-qualified technicians. At Wichita State University (WSU) we have worked out a plan thatenables our students to use the laboratories at one of the local community colleges called theWichita Area Technical College (WATC). In this agreement the students are provided first handexposure to manufacturing techniques such as machining, welding, and composite blue printreading / fabrication, among other laboratory exercises. The laboratory sessions are taught byWATC instructors with extensive background and training dedicated to the variousmanufacturing areas. Students will be expected to

32. Structure and Evolution of RHV ProgramThe current mission of the RHV program is to engage technology based businesses to provideoutstanding educational opportunities for students. Using the earlier successes with start-upcompanies, the program is now promoted to technology based companies of all sizes, maturities, and types to identify technical needs they may have and to create structured project work that canbe executed in the RHV program as shown in Figure 1. A legal agreement is executed includinga general project scope and terms concerning confidentiality, intellectual property, andindemnity. The companies contribute the technical needs and financial support to thearrangement. The RHV program provides dedicated infrastructure

, the teachers evaluated the presentation and theexperimental investigation. In addition to the daily general laboratory activities, specific blocks of time were scheduled forcurriculum mapping, as well as horizontal and vertical alignment among participants. Dr. HeidiHayes Jacobs advocates collecting real-time information about what is actually taught to createcurriculum maps.3 Teachers had real-time information to develop maps with other grade-levelteachers to align the activities to the Science Frameworks for each grade level. This activityensures smooth transitions between grade levels in order to avoid gaps and overlaps in thecurriculum. The Year 1 Institute concluded with a session on scientific action research, which focused ondata
