BackgroundDifferent types of engineering and engineering technology undergraduate research experiences havebeen offered from the NSF Research Experiences for Undergraduate summer programs to smallindividual projects undertaken during the semester. Research indicates that numerous benefits fromundergraduate research accrue to the student as well as to the sponsoring faculty member.As noted by Zhan et al, faculty in engineering technology do not typically have access to graduatestudents for research, but they are expected increasingly to engage in greater amounts of researchand scholarly work.1
