Survey participantsresponded to questions from the Maryland Physics Expectations Survey (MPEX), and a mixtureof quantitative and qualitative research methods was applied for data collection. Conclusionsdraw on data analyses using an alternative taxonomy model in the cognitive domain. This study'sfindings reinforce our view that metacognition (knowledge of cognition) and knowledgeconstruction play an important role in learning. the Engineer of 2020, the first sentence in chapter one (p. 7) is:“Engineering is a profoundly creative process.”1 Later in the report, creativity is targeted as oneof a handful of essential qualities that are indispensable for engineers, growing in importancewith the complexity of the challenges of the 21st century (p.55). Creativity manifests itself inengineering innovations that arise from it, and few would disagree with the desirability ofcreativity and innovation in engineering graduates. Educaci´on del Noreste de M´exico (REDIIEN). Professor Dominguez has been a visiting researcher at Syracuse University and at the University of Texas at Austin. She teaches undergraduate courses in Mathematics and graduate courses in Education. Professor Dominguez is a thesis advisor on the master and doctoral programs on education of the Virtual University of Tecnologico de Monterrey. Her main research areas are: a) models and modeling, b) use of technology to improve learning and c) evaluation.
