. Page 17.31.7 64. Lifelong Learning and ISTE Short Term Training Programs The role of a teacher is considered crucial for the effectiveimplementation of any education programme. Today, in addition to teaching, theteacher is called upon to perform a variety of tasks including reasons, subjectupdating, development of Learning Resource Material, Extension, consultancy,counseling, administration, etc. The NPE – 1986 has clearly recognized thesemultiple roles and had advocated a planned staff development programme toequip the teacher for effectively playing these multiple roles. This is moreimportant in view of the fact that teaching is the only
