Conventional aspectsof course delivery, including lecture and slide presentations, were used mostly in the early daysto cover the fundamentals of fluid mechanics and to lay a foundation for the in-class and out-of-class projects, experiments, and computer simulations. However, even during the “lecture days”,care was taken to present the material in a manner that invited participation from the students.Both of the instructors have had significant experience in creating positive, welcoming learningenvironments at the undergraduate level, even when the course material is rigorous.
