, 12Student Veterans’ Acculturation to U.S. Higher Education Culture Acculturation models offer a theoretical framework to explain student veterans’ culturalconflict as they reintegrate into higher education.15 Acculturation is as a complex process ofbalancing cultural changes resulting from the encounter of two or more cultural groups.21 Asstudent veterans (non-dominant group) enter the culture of higher education (dominant culture),acculturation models take into account the existence of peer differentiation and dynamicsbetween both groups.
