The main theme of the outreach effort is “project-oriented, team-based” learning philosophy, which goes beyond the typical “cookie-cutter hands-on” ideas in that there is an overall

However, the performance is judged against a fixedstandard rather than relative to other groups. The grade on the barge project counts for 10% ofthe grade for the Ship Structures course. Impact on Ocean Engineering Education and TrainingThe NNRNE program has helped to a) enhance the education and training in ocean and navalengineering offered by the FAU-Consortium Institutions through collaborations between theinstitutions and through student interactions with CISD whereby they gain vital practicalexperience in ship design, and b) provide students with career paths in naval engineering inindustry and government.
