create sensor values in the range of 0-30cm. This range is based on pre-planning for physical implementation. The simulation produces two ofthese inputs, one for the left side and one for the right side of the simulated system. Both values arepropagated straight into the FL controller. The Fuzzy Logic controller contains two input membershipfunctions (MF). The functions are identical, but one processes the left sensor inputs and the otherprocesses the right sensor inputs. Five linguistic variables were used as: {VS, S, M, W, VW } denotingVery Strong , Strong , Medium, Weak, and Very Weak. An input falling within the VS membershipcategory indicates and object is very close, and conversely an input within the VW membership categorymeans an object
mathematical terms and then use theirproblem-solving skills to understand the consequences. Based on my experiences inteaching ordinary differential equations to engineering students, students see theirmathematical education as simply a vast collection of specific procedures. The questionraised here is whether better coordination of the content in first-year math and physicscourses could improve student ability to use math in subsequent engineering courses. Ifthis is so, then the mathematical content used in the physics course must be documentedbefore changes in the content in the math course can be planned. At the same time, thephysics course might benefit from a better illustration of important mathematicsconcepts, helping students to appreciate
progress through the various stages of the designloop. Student teams also had access to the mechanical engineering machine shop with adedicated staff member to assist with various fabrication tasks. The stated learning objectives of both the drill-powered vehicle project and the adapted tricycleproject were to: • Learn professional skills essential for engineering, including project management, working in a team, and technical design report writing • Plan and implement the stages of the design loop • Learn how to practically apply course concepts • Learn how to research information that is not explicitly given in a formal classroom settingPBL: Drill-powered Vehicle ProjectThe challenge presented to the students was to

We maintainthat although this genre of work (process documentation) is not often found in the academicliterature, it will be of great benefit to those interested in developing similar tools or to those whoare interested in the generalizability of our work to their particular student population. Moreover, and perhaps more importantly, we argue that the ultimate goal of our study, that ofdeveloping a direct assessment of students’ skills in reconciling and navigating cross-culturalspaces, will not only enable improved assessment of students’ abilities, but may lead to improvedstrategies for educating students about this critical skill for the 21st century. . Page 23.441.4Engineering Self-Efficacy and Self-ConfidenceAs a measure of engineering self-efficacy, study participants were asked to indicate their level ofagreement with the statement “I could be an engineer, if I wanted to.” There was a statisticallysignificant difference between the study groups, with the girls who participated in the full CampReach intervention or another WPI STEM program rating themselves more highly than the othertwo groups. Post-hoc comparisons indicated a statistically significant difference between theCamp Reach Full and Camp Reach Partial study groups. A common theme in responses to open-ended questions about Camp Reach was the sense of empowerment and self-confidence createdby the program. As we were planning to
energy farm andload, the gap between them can be estimated. Based on these values together with systemfrequency regulation signal, a smart charging controller can be designed by using the fuzzy logicto control the charging and discharging of the battery in the system, which will absorb or injectpower and finally make the system frequency and voltage stable [8].In this educational paper, teaching the topic will start with the description of the hybrid systemwith some general background about how the system works with solar energy, wind energy, loadand energy storage. This portion is theoretical and can be explained by the instructor in the class. After that, three steps of planning and building the hybrid system involving renewable energy andload

However, the term projecthas a larger scope, and requires the students to conduct research, come up with the design plan, implement the design, evaluate the results and propose a solution. Instructor’s feedback duringthe process is highly recommended. In this section, we will present a few representative projects of different scopes to show how tointegrate the inquiry-learning process. Although the projects were developed in the context ofcomputer networking subject, they also demonstrate the principle of effective project design toenhance the learning of students with diverse background. • In-class Project Example: Stop and Wait ARQ The main goal of the project is to find out which factor affects the efficiency of

is to develop advanced level practitioners in industrywho are interested in developing green knowledge to meet evolving workforce demands, seeking professional development, expanding opportunities for professional advancement,or pursuing a managerial position9-12. To support this goal, the new course is intended toenable students to make green decisions when selecting and implementing a sustainabledesign plan for a particular industrial application through an in-depth understanding ofcurrently available and newly emerging green manufacturing. The course is currentlyoffered entirely online. One of the key challenges in developing the online course is anemphasis on life cycle assessment simulation experience for enhancing online studentlearning
effective signal processing education at NDSU. Dataalso supports a consistent level of student preparedness for the applied DSP course and modestperformance improvements accompanying times when the course utilized a supplemental DSPmanuscript. The data supports that through conscientious instructor efforts to better engagestudents, performance will improve. In this case, by emphasizing critical reading and evaluationof the DSP manuscript, student course performance, as measured by the final exam, generallyimproved. Because this activity was tried for the first time we could have 3 match ups.Several challenges were faced during the implementation of the proposed plans. 2008 semester, the design project(3) required students to design, construct, test and mathematically model the performance of a hot air balloon. An emphasis oncommunication required each team to complete their design, mathematical model and testingplans well in advance to their scheduled testing date. Each team gave their design projectconstruction materials and design plans to another team, which constructed their design; and thenthe constructed projected was given to an evaluation team (while the original design teamconstructed and evaluated different designs). The design teams were returned their originaldesigns and evaluations prior to final testing with the instructor. The design project for the fall2009 semester required the students to

reduction in the number of operators for the polishingprocess and the extension of the tool life, allows Bent Glass Design Inc. to save cost for each toolreplaced as well as to save the cost for a reduced operator. The company currently uses multipletools to meet the increasing demand of polishing curved edges and is also planning on increasingthe number of tools being designed by the senior design team. We believe that problem-basedlearning, as exemplified by a capstone Senior Design project such as this one, provides studentswith important knowledge about green design. In addition, such projects provide students withthe essential project management and engineering skills required to bring complex projects fromidea to completion.Bibliography1

of MaterialsDuring this study, the authors co-taught an undergraduate class in Strength of Materials to acohort of 2nd year mechanical Engineering students. It should be noted that KathmanduUniversity has lockstep programs in each engineering discipline; therefore, students of the sameyear and major will have identical schedules and class meetings. As a result the students are veryfamiliar with their classmates by the end of their first semester on campus and will continue tobuild these relationships during their four years at the university. This is in contrast to most USengineering programs like the home University of the author. The Strength of Materials classconsisted of 60 students. The department’s curricular plan is for the class to
leaveswomen feeling like outsiders. This perception is further exacerbated by the lack of role modelsand mentors to help women themselves as part of the computing community. While many of these causes continue to be problematic, this section offered several opportunitiesthat may be available to the field of computing to increase women’s interest, enrollment, andretention in the field. On a systemic level, we have highlighted the need for better mentorship forcurrent female students and faculty to make them want to stay in the field and become rolemodels to future students. Research also suggests that there needs to be more strategicrecruitment plans that combat the stereotypes of computing and encourage women to participateby supporting current
provides air conditioning to the mainlaboratory building classroom and office area. Students decided to use an Air Conditioner(HVAC) unit to test the TEG unit and do simulation according to the temperature environment inthe unit. The simulation is a thermal analysis using the finite element method. There is nostructural analysis. The components are oriented out of plan with each other, not because ofstructural deformation, but because the hot and cold lines in the condenser unit were not parallelto each other and we wanted to avoid putting a mechanical load on the thermoelectric unit. Aflexible component was later added to the system to prevent mechanical loading of thethermoelectric module due to either thermal stress/strain or vibration. Here
, and OLP, where roboticprojects can be used to facilitate real world experience for the students and motivate theirinterests in the various topics. Offline programming is the technique of generating a robotprogram with using a real robot machine. This OLP method presents many advantages over theon-line method (Physically use a robot teach pendent to generate a robot program): (1) robotprograms are generated without interruptions of robot operation, (2) removal of the students fromthe potentially dangerous environment, (3) there is a greater possibility for optimization ofsystem layout and the planning of robot motions. We teach our MET students offlineprogramming software to emulate the robot motions, generate program instructions

It is expected that these agreements will beexpanded in the future to include articulations into the new BMET and REET degree programs. The REET program in particular is also expected to attract students from other majors inengineering technology, engineering, and some of the science programs on campus. The facultyis already working on a marketing plan to target such students. Page 23.180.9VI. shift their focus to a learning mode forthe lecture material after the quiz.To strike a balance between the possible negative impacts of daily quizzing and the potentialpositive impacts of improving student learning by increasing their motivation to keep abreast ofthe course material, the author implemented a student evaluation plan based around 4-6 quizzes asemester, as opposed to 2 large exams, in a Basic Engineering Thermodynamics course. Whilehaving students take a quiz every 2-3 weeks requires the students to keep up with course materialas it is taught, it does not lead to potentially increasing student anxiety levels through dailyquizzing, and provides students with some flexibility in arranging their weekly study schedules. The quizzes

They accept the graduates “as is” and simply plan to provide the necessary additional training either on the job or in company classes. AAS programs that do not serve industry are not supported by industry and therefore are bound to decline or ultimately fail.9. Dated curriculum and courses. Most electronic departments were started decades ago and still maintain a curriculum with the same courses that addressed technology at the time of their establishment. In general, most AAS electronic programs are based on a model that is at least 30 years old. These programs have generally failed to take
